The predicament of balancing work and family is the challenge from which British Nannies was founded. Having moved from the London suburbs to the South Coast to enjoy life by the sea, our Founder and Managing Director Freya soon realised that finding reliable, flexible childcare while she commuted to and from the City to work long days was difficult. So she set out to create her own professional childcare company for other families with similar struggles to rely on. Thus Hampshire Nannies - quickly expanding across the rest of the UK to become known as British Nannies - was born, and our focus became providing caring, reliable, professional back-up care Nannies for busy families requiring temporary and emergency childcare. The core of the company is in allowing people to choose both work and family, when one or the other requires more attention than an individual can give. We can be there for you if an appointment can’t be rescheduled because your child can’t go to school, or if your parent needs an extra hand in the house while you’re away on business.
As we offer our service both to private families and as an employment benefit for companies, we further work towards encouraging work-life balance and employee retention across the board. Back-up care reduces stress for the individual and the business as a whole, and fosters a more considerate workplace environment. Improving employee experience by offering a range of benefits for reduces turnover and makes workers feel more comfortable in their role, and more appreciated.
In terms of how we support our own employees, yet again work-life balance is the name of the game. Flexibility and inclusivity are key in our working model, allowing those who can’t work a traditional 9-5 role every weekday to pay the bills around their person circumstances. Whether a medical, family, or right to work limitation may affect the hours you can work, we have options for you.
British Nannies help career progression within both the adult and childcare industries, which desperately need a higher standard of employment and increased quantity of workforce. Helping train our childcare and adult care staff to do both age ranges diversifies the skillset of our team, meaning they have more choice of roles, and our clients have a greater number of caregivers to rely on. Adult care and childcare both have a reputation for low pay, long hours, and not a lot of thanks. Upholding and promoting a minimum of Real Living Wages, with regular pay reviews, and weekly pay that is always on time is the bare minimum for us. We also prioritise the well-being of our team through an open and friendly work environment where we encourage questions and constructive criticism so we can continue to improve as an employer. Always asking client families for feedback allows us to share a personalised list of lovely comments with each caregiver every month, along with thanks from our office team, too!
