When British Nannies recently conducted an anonymous survey on how the team would describe the company, employees were asked to suggest key words, and then pick the three words they thought most accurate. There ended up being a draw for 3rd place, however, so we ended up with five words instead:

1) Inclusive

2) Approachable

Joint 3) Diverse, Caring, and Flexible

We’ve always focused on making sure that working at British Nannies is as inclusive and accessible as possible, not only via accommodations, but at the core of all of our business practices. Our management regularly review improvements that can be made within the organisation as a whole using feedback provided by a variety of individuals, each with their own requirements.

Recruitment

Right from the start, which I as a recruiter deem to be the marketing and advertising of job roles, we are transparent about our requirements and benefits – if you meet these, you will always be invited to an interview. We are a Disability Confident Committed and Living Wage Employer, and very open in our stance on work-life balance and flexibility around personal circumstances. Whether this is in the form of extended leave for medical, religious, or cultural reasons, flexible day-to-day hours around other commitments or hourly constraints, or same-day bookings if you aren’t always able to plan ahead, we are completely on-board with whatever you need. This can be discussed in the interview or on-boarding call stage, if you so wish, but if you prefer not to disclose any information at any point of your employment, we will completely respect your autonomy and privacy.

Office staff

For our office team, remote working allows for an even broader range of inclusivity as, of course, your own home is completely within your control to customise as you wish! Additionally, the lack of a social requirement as there would be in a physical office space means that those who prefer to work in an undisturbed environment can have exactly that. We also provide private healthcare, including mental health services, for our permanent team.

Bookings

On a service and bookings basis, we actively reduce bias of our clients by holding them to the same legal standards that we follow. Disregarding any “preferences” protected by law is but the first step of the process. Our matching algorithm also protects both customers and caregivers, not only from unconscious bias, but also from sharing unnecessary personal information.

Standing up for our team with these measures protects diversity, without which a company could not excel. Having a wide range of knowledge, perspectives and experience allows all of us to provide a better service to our customers. It is the uniqueness within all of us as individuals which forms the natural connections that allow care and trust to thrive – both of which are of paramount importance to us.
