British Nannies provides back-up care, allowing the seamless continuation of day-to-day life even when those who rely on you need extra help. As a service provider with a small office team and network of caregivers spanning the UK, the company exists to support businesses as they help their employees; we also provide care for individuals and their families. The sustainability of our practices and how they can be improved is key to the longevity of everyone involved, and will be renewed annually henceforth.
A significant number of our current methods already form a solid road to sustainable business practice. As an entirely remote company we have no physical office, and hence avoid unnecessary electricity, heating, resources and land use; additionally our office team to not have to commute using either their own vehicles or public transportation. We are also an almost entirely paper-free office – the only paper used is within the welcome pack to new employees, or legally mandatory documentation. Additionally, of our caregivers, 65% commute solely by public transportation (due to some clients living in remote and rural locations, this will never be 100%).
Remote and field working do require large amounts of data-processing, however, as well as the support of various in-house and online systems, and the physical devices and energy required to power them. Hence, there are still considerations that can be made towards our digital sustainability practices.
Despite current successes, improvements will always be necessary to do our part towards reducing our environmental impact as a population. Hence we have created three targets which British Nannies will action in 2025.
- Hold a biannual in-house environment discussion to promote a forward-thinking sustainability culture and encourage individuals to consider, recommend, and undertake further action
- Create an easily accessible library of nature, environment, and sustainability-driven activities to engage and inspire both our caregivers and care recipients
- Ensure information transparency of our suppliers by requesting a copy of their sustainability policy – if they don’t yet have one, then we will request they write one
The initial actions will be undertaken in the first quarter of 2025, and then reviewed at the start of the last quarter, before this policy will be renewed and improved upon.
