British Nannies – the history
The first stepping stone in the life of our company was the founding of Hampshire Nannies back in the early 2000’s. Having moved from the London suburbs to the South Coast to enjoy life by the sea, our Founder and Managing Director Freya Smith soon realised that finding reliable, flexible childcare while she commuted to and from the City was much more difficult when living in a rural location.
Freya set out to create her own professional Nanny service so she could ensure families in the South could rely on her company, and thus Hampshire Nannies was born. However very quickly, Hampshire Nannies began to grow. It quickly expanded across six counties: Hampshire, Dorset, Sussex, Surrey, Berkshire and Wiltshire. Hundreds of families and Nannies were happily using the popular service in all these counties, and plans were developed to extend to other counties and also overseas.
Freya explains: “Our growing success across many counties drove the need for a new brand so we could communicate clearly and all of our clients could enjoy the core benefits of our services. To do this we launched the brand ‘British Nannies’ so all our families and Nannies could access all our supporting services, news and events in one central resource, wherever they themselves may be located. We are proud to be British Nannies!”

British Nannies Founder and Managing Director Freya Smith has a career history in corporate consultancy and a sincere passion for quality and customer satisfaction. As a mother of two herself, she has many years’ experience interacting with both childcare professionals and agencies. Through these years of experience it became clear that finding a Nanny at short notice is not always an easy process – but Freya firmly believes it should be.

The British Nannies team – Helena
Helena is our Head of Compliance, and holds a number of key responsibilities including managing our registration process, conducting background checks, and helping us prepare for client and regulatory audits. She has a background in Research, Project and Database Management.
As the mother of a super-active toddler, Helena understands parents’ requirements for a caring, professional and attentive emergency Nanny who puts the needs of children first at all times.
The British Nannies team – Ellie
Ellie is our Head of Delivery here at British Nannies. Ellie has a background in administration, customer service, finance and recruitment.
Ellie says: “In my spare time I’m usually cuddling one of my many animals, hiking, camping, at a concert or an event or seeing friends and family.
I have a passion for helping others; I’m a social, chatty individual always happy to help at the drop of a hat. I always try to provide the best and most positive service possible.

Emma joins the British Nannies team in 2019 as Customer Relations and Business Development Manager.

Megan supports the British Nannies team with arranging emergency Nanny bookings, office administration tasks, website updates, data management – and her fabulous vegan muffins!
The British Nannies team – Linda
Linda arranges emergency Nanny bookings and provides the highest level of customer service to our clients.
Linda says: “I have two grown up children – one keeps leaving home and then coming back again!
I have over 20 years of experience in customer service and working with families in a variety of different roles. I am really happy to be part of the British Nannies Team.
In my spare time I love having weekends away in our caravan (which we have towed all the way to Croatia!) and playing with our new puppy.”
The British Nannies team – Robbie
We welcomed Robbie into our team in October 2018 to join Ellie, Megan and Linda in providing the highest levels of customer service to our clients.
Robbie explains: “I have many years of experience in customer service and get a buzz out of knowing I’ve helped someone. I’m really happy to be a part of the British Nannies team and looking forward to working with you on your future bookings.
When not at work, I love walks with my dog, spending time with family and friends, films, travel and good food!”
The British Nannies team – Claire
Claire has also recently joined the British Nannies team, working closely with our customers and caregivers to place emergency Nanny bookings quickly and efficiently.
Claire says: “I have many years of experience in customer service roles and I really enjoy helping people.
I am excited to be part of the British Nannies team.
In my spare time I love spending time with my two cats Diva and Hustler and enjoy weekends away with my husband in our static caravan in North Yorkshire.”
